Software Engineer - Backend PHP

About the role

EveryPay, the digital financial infrastructure behind the Skroutz Group, is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Product & Engineering team. The team keeps the backend systems robust, secure and scalable, from consumer and merchant wallets to alternative payment methods and multi-vendor marketplace checkouts. The workplace is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance PHP services, background jobs and APIs that process real financial transactions at scale
• Write modern PHP (8.2+) with strict types, typed properties and PSR standards
• Build and maintain APIs, background jobs and database-driven features
• Review pull requests, catch bugs, enforce standards and suggest better patterns
• Improve code quality, architecture and performance
• Develop and maintain features across the payment platform with high availability and low latency
• Work with product managers and engineering leads, taking ownership of features from conception to deployment with DevOps, cloud infrastructure and agile practices

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience
• Solid understanding of relational database schema design, query optimization and transactions
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, with attention to contracts, versioning and error handling
• Genuine commitment to testing (unit and integration)
• Security mindset covering edge cases, injection, data exposure and failure modes
• Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines in a team setting
• Clear communication with engineers and non-engineers
• Exposure to message queues and asynchronous processing
• Completed military obligations (if applicable)

• AWS (ECS, Lambda, SNS, SQS, ECR)
• Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions CI/CD
• Event-driven, service-oriented and DDD architecture

Nice to have

• Familiarity with DDD, CQRS or event-driven architectures
• Experience with AWS SQS, Lambda and ECS
• Fintech, payments or regulated-environment background
