Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Epignosis, a Greek SaaS company behind products such as TalentLMS, eFront, TalentCards and TalentHR, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Athens. The role takes ownership of complex, ambiguous engineering challenges within a single team, turning unclear problems into plans, raising code quality and reliability, and mentoring colleagues. It is a hybrid position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex work end to end, from design through delivery and production follow-up, and be accountable for how it behaves in production.
• Turn unclear problem statements into a technical approach, delivery plan and trade-offs, working with Product Managers on PRDs, stories and acceptance criteria.
• Own design decisions (data model, API, background processing, caching, concurrency) and write them down with rejected alternatives.
• Surface architectural, security, reliability and delivery risks early, and escalate decisions beyond your authority.
• Design and implement security controls, and strengthen tests, observability and reliability controls.
• Troubleshoot tough technical and production issues, lead incident response and drive postmortems.
• Mentor less experienced engineers through pairing and code reviews.

Required profile

• 5+ years building and running production web applications and distributed systems at scale.
• Track record of owning complex work end to end.
• Solid understanding of multi-tenant architectures, ideally from having built or run a multi-tenant SaaS product.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and systems thinking.
• Pragmatic, language-agnostic mindset; the primary backend is modern PHP, fluency helpful but not required.

Required skills

• Deep relational database skills: schema design, query optimisation, indexing, data consistency.
• Modern API design, automated testing, CI/CD and production observability (logs, metrics, traces).
