Head of Legal (Human Rights)

About the role

The Human Rights Legal Project (HRLP) is looking for a Head of Legal to lead its legal team in defending the rights of displaced people across the EU. The role is based in Greece, with the option to work from Athens, Thessaloniki or Samos, and offers a flexible four‑day work week.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all legal activities, including litigation, representation, and strategic advocacy for asylum‑seekers and refugees.
• Develop and implement legal strategies to hold authorities accountable for human‑rights violations.
• Manage a team of lawyers and paralegals, providing mentorship and ensuring high‑quality case handling.
• Coordinate with project managers and external partners to align legal actions with broader program objectives.
• Monitor changes in Greek and EU asylum law and advise the organization on compliance and policy impact.

Required profile

• Law degree with a strong background in human‑rights or asylum law.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in litigation and legal advocacy, preferably in the migration context.
• Proven leadership experience managing legal teams.
• Fluency in English; Greek language skills are an advantage.
