Senior Systems & Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems & Infrastructure Engineer to take complete ownership of our client’s corporate on‑premises IT infrastructure, core network architecture, and cloud services ecosystem (Azure AD / M365). You will oversee system reliability, lead optimisation projects, ensure high availability across headquarters and retail/warehouse sites, and drive technology modernisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain core infrastructure with a focus on high availability, scalability and security across on‑premises Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD) and Microsoft 365.
• Own corporate database environments, handling capacity planning, storage allocation, performance tuning and backup/disaster‑recovery strategies.
• Conduct regular system audits, monitoring and proactive risk assessments to guarantee uptime and compliance.
• Manage enterprise network topology, including firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, LAN/WAN/VLANs and VoIP across headquarters and operational sites.
• Supervise hardware infrastructure such as servers, specialised warehousing equipment (RF scanners, network peripherals) and system backups.
• Enforce security updates, patching policies and perimeter‑defence controls for internal and cloud assets.
• Act as L2 escalation point for complex infrastructure, system and specialised retail/warehouse hardware issues.
• Collaborate with the IT Manager on emerging technologies, budget optimisation and alignment with business growth.
• Manage relationships with external vendors, service providers and telecommunications contractors to ensure SLA compliance.
• Standardise operating procedures and documentation for deployments, onboarding and device lifecycle management.

Required profile

• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering or related field with 6‑8 years of hands‑on Systems Administration / Infrastructure Engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in the Microsoft ecosystem (Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID, Azure, Microsoft 365) and solid knowledge of networking and security fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs, routing, switching, VLANs, VoIP).
• Proven experience with database management and infrastructure monitoring tools.
