Senior Radio Firmware Engineer

About the role

Renesas Electronics is looking for a Senior Radio Firmware Engineer in Athens to develop, test and maintain the low-level firmware drivers that give a consistent, future-proof and well-documented interface to the radio of Renesas wireless SoCs. The role follows standardization efforts and turns radio PHY requirements into efficient firmware solutions, contributing to the integration of drivers into wireless protocol stacks.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, test and maintain the radio low-level firmware drivers for wireless SoCs
• Fine-tune the firmware for performance, energy efficiency, resource utilization and reliability
• Integrate the radio drivers into wireless protocol stacks
• Develop and maintain firmware for IC simulation, production test, lab evaluation, qualification and characterization
• Implement and maintain automated regression tests for the radio firmware
• Troubleshoot firmware, software and architectural issues
• Create and maintain documentation and Application Notes
• Schedule own tasks, report progress to the project leader and flag possible project issues
• Contribute to datasheets, architectural specifications and development plans for new designs

Required profile

• Industry experience in embedded software for ARM or DSP cores
• Background in highly resource-constrained, real-time embedded environments
• Full software development lifecycle experience, including requirements, design, implementation, testing and deployment
• Fluent English, written and spoken
• Desirable: chip development flow, hardware/software trade-offs, hardware description languages, test automation and strong mathematical fundamentals

Required skills

• Solid C and Python
• Assembly for at least one microcontroller family
• Version control, e.g. Git
• Bench test equipment: logic analysers, debug probes, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers
• Desirable: embedded tools such as GCC, GDB, Make, CMake; wireless protocols (Bluetooth, Thread, Zigbee); MATLAB
