Senior Software Engineer (Java)

About the role

Light & Wonder is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its high‑performing agile team. You will work on the OpenGaming platform, designing, building and operating cloud‑native Java services that power the world’s leading iGaming providers.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in all stages of the software development life‑cycle, from analysis to testing.
• Write clean, efficient Java code using Spring Boot and RESTful APIs.
• Review and refactor existing code to improve reliability, performance and operability.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, DevOps and business teams in a self‑organising, Kanban‑driven environment.
• Lead large product initiatives and provide technical coaching to less‑experienced engineers.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in web system design and development.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and act as a primary decision‑maker for a team or project.

Required skills

• Java (5+ years commercial experience)
• Spring Boot / RESTful services
• AWS, cloud‑native and micro‑service architectures
• SQL and NoSQL databases (relational and non‑relational)
• Unix/Linux environments
• Redis or Hazelcast caching
• Kafka or RabbitMQ messaging
• Jenkins, Docker and CI/CD pipelines
• Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
• Frontend basics (HTML, JavaScript, React) – a plus
