Senior Critical Environment Technician – Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance (Shifts)

About the role

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team is looking for a Senior Critical Environment Technician to maintain and protect the essential infrastructure of its global datacenters. You will work on electrical, mechanical and control systems, ensuring reliable operation while mentoring junior technicians and supporting shift‑based coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and troubleshoot critical environment equipment such as HVAC, electrical distribution, mechanical systems and generators.
• Use the internal Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log work orders, track assets and document maintenance activities.
• Lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions that could impact datacenter operations.
• Coordinate with suppliers, vendors and internal management to address operational, risk and safety issues.
• Monitor equipment performance through telemetry platforms and recommend optimisations.
• Mentor and train other Critical Environment Technicians.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience in electrical, mechanical or controls maintenance within a high‑availability environment.
• Proven ability to work independently on advanced tasks and lead incident response.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to follow strict operational policies.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and capacity to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
