Regional Managing Director (Mining / Metallurgy / Base Metals) – Europe

About the role

GateSource HR is recruiting, on behalf of an international mining and metallurgical group, a seasoned Regional Managing Director to lead and optimise operations across several European countries. The role combines strategic leadership, operational oversight and business development, with a focus on performance, efficiency and organisational transformation. It is a residential position based in Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage mining and metallurgical operations across multiple countries, ensuring operational excellence, safety and compliance.
• Drive business development, identifying growth opportunities, partnerships and investments.
• Support the commercial team with sales activities, client relationships and contract negotiations.
• Oversee energy-related investment projects to strengthen long-term competitiveness.
• Implement restructuring and modernisation programmes across regional sites.
• Manage labour and union relations, ensuring constructive dialogue and compliance with local regulations.
• Execute cost optimisation strategies to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Represent the organisation with government authorities, industry associations and communities.

Required profile

• Degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy or a related discipline.
• At least 15 years of progressive experience, including 10+ years in senior leadership roles in mining or metallurgy.
• Strong background in multi-country operations or large, complex industrial sites.
• Proven expertise in union relations, organisational change and cost optimisation.
• Commercial acumen with a track record in business development and sales support.
• Familiarity with energy or industrial investment projects is an asset.
• Fluency in English is essential; additional European languages are a plus.
