Principal Back-End Software Engineer

About the role

Light & Wonder is seeking a Principal Back-End Software Engineer who is hands‑on and can lead a small team while writing production‑grade code. You will work closely with architects to shape system‑level decisions and ensure high‑quality delivery across our iGaming platform.

Key responsibilities

• Write, review and own production‑quality Java/Spring Boot code, applying TDD and clean architecture principles.
• Collaborate with solution and enterprise architects to design APIs, event‑driven patterns and cloud‑native deployments.
• Lead a team of 2‑8 engineers, run Agile ceremonies and act as the primary technical escalation point.
• Build observability tooling, lead incident response and champion DevOps practices such as IaC and automated deployments.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with recent hands‑on coding.
• Proven experience leading small engineering teams from design to production.
• Strong communication skills and ability to produce clear design documents.

• Microservices, event‑driven architecture, Apache Kafka, SQS/SNS, RabbitMQ
• AWS (ECS/EKS, RDS, ElastiCache), Docker, Kubernetes
• CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), Terraform, Helm
• Observability tools such as Splunk and Grafana
• SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases
