Mining Engineer – Pumice Quarry, Dodecanese

About the role

HERACLES Group, a member of the HOLCIM group and a leading Greek building materials company, is looking for a Mining Engineer to join LAVA, an industrial minerals producer based on Gyali island between Kos and Nisyros. The site operates the world's largest pumice stone quarry, offering hands-on experience in running a modern mining operation in the Dodecanese.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and monitor mining activities, quarry operations, equipment performance, health and safety, environmental compliance and sustainable use of mineral resources.
• Support the planning and preparation of mining operations.
• Maintain records of daily maintenance and first-level inspections of mobile and stationary equipment.
• Monitor quarry activities for safety and legal compliance.
• Coordinate with authorities and stakeholders.
• Help review quarry reserves and evaluate raw materials.
• Support the Sustainable Development department in monitoring the Environmental Management System.
• Ensure compliance with the environmental conditions set out in the operating permits (water and waste management).

Required profile

• Degree in Mining Engineering or Mineral Resources Engineering.
• 2-5 years of experience in an industrial or quarry environment is an advantage.
• Excellent command of English.
• Proactive, self-motivated and results-oriented, with a strong commitment to health and safety.
• Team spirit and effective communication skills.
