Lab Technician – Ceramic Material Development

About the role

Tesla is looking for a Lab/Engineering Technician to join its ceramic material team. The role focuses on pilot‑ and semi‑pilot‑scale handling, synthesis and testing of ceramic materials that support sustainable transportation, energy storage and generation. The technician will work closely with engineers and other technicians in a multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform material handling and operate synthesis equipment such as shear mixers, ball mills, muffle furnaces, and tube furnaces.
• Conduct wet chemistry techniques including agitation, filtration, and solvent evaporation.
• Carry out ceramic fabrication processes such as slurry mixing and thermal processing.
• Operate ceramic material testing equipment for routine performance evaluation.
• Identify and report anomalies in samples, processes, or test results to engineers.
• Maintain lab equipment and supplies, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with ceramic material synthesis.
• Familiarity with handling fine powders and maintaining sample integrity.
• Understanding of the physics and chemistry relevant to ceramic materials.
• Experience working in glove‑box environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent in a related field.
