Head of Legal

About the role

The Human Rights Legal Project (HRLP) seeks a Head of Legal to lead its legal team in defending the rights of displaced people across the EU. Based in Athens, Thessaloniki, or Samos, you will shape legal strategy, provide pro‑bono counsel, and represent the organisation in advocacy forums.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement HRLP’s internal legal strategy and guide the team on case selection.
• Provide pro‑bono legal consultancy to clients, ensuring alignment with the project’s mandate.
• Submit exceptional case proposals to the board and manage potential conflicts of interest.
• Design and execute domestic and international advocacy strategies related to migration and asylum law.
• Represent HRLP at local, national, EU, and international working groups and policy events.
• Collaborate with the Communications Officer to amplify HRLP’s legal work.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of EU and Greek migration and asylum legislation.
• Passion for human‑rights advocacy and justice.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Samos if based on the mainland.
• Proven experience leading a legal team or managing complex litigation.
