Embedded Software Engineer – IoT

About the role

DeepSea is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join its IoT department in Athens. You will work closely with the IoT Architect and Product Owner to design, develop, and deploy software for maritime IoT devices that collect and process sensor data on vessels worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded software for data acquisition systems and edge devices using C/C++ and Python on embedded Linux and microcontroller platforms.
• Develop and maintain a Yocto‑based Linux distribution (BSP, custom layers, kernel configuration, device drivers) for ARM hardware.
• Implement marine and industrial communication protocols (NMEA 0183/2000, IEC 61162‑450, Modbus RTU/TCP, RS‑232/RS‑485, CAN) and wireless IoT links (LoRaWAN, ZigBee, BLE, Wi‑Fi, LTE).
• Build and optimise the edge data pipeline – acquisition, filtering, metadata calculation, compression, encryption and reliable store‑and‑forward transmission.
• Develop secure OTA update, device provisioning and remote management mechanisms (e.g., Mender) and apply secure‑by‑design practices for maritime cyber‑security compliance.

Required profile

• BSc/MSc in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software development.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ for embedded Linux and microcontroller targets, and solid experience with Python and Bash for tooling and automation.
