Director of Payment Operations

About the role

The Director of Payment Operations leads the global payments strategy, overseeing processing, acquiring, routing, and expansion across multiple markets. You will own performance, scalability, reliability, and economics of the payments ecosystem while collaborating with product, engineering, finance, risk, compliance, legal, and commercial teams.

Key responsibilities

• Execute the global payments roadmap, including processing, acquiring, payment methods, routing, and geographic expansion.
• Manage relationships with acquirers, processors, gateways, PSPs, and card networks, handling selection, onboarding, contracts, and SLAs.
• Optimize multi‑acquirer and multi‑processor setups for redundancy, pricing, and coverage.
• Drive higher authorization and approval rates through analysis of declines, retries, tokenization, and account updater performance.
• Own payment economics, negotiate rates, and build financial models to evaluate partner proposals.
• Partner with risk, fraud, and compliance to balance fraud prevention with approval rates and maintain chargeback levels.
• Ensure stable, resilient payment operations with clear incident, outage, settlement, and reconciliation processes.
• Lead and develop the payments team, reporting on performance, risks, and priorities to senior leadership.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in payments, fintech, e‑commerce, banking, or a related industry.
• 3+ years of senior leadership experience managing payments teams or setting payments strategy.
• Deep knowledge of the card payments ecosystem, including acquirers, processors, gateways, PSPs, tokenization, 3DS/SCA, chargebacks, fraud, and alternative methods.
• Proven track record negotiating commercial terms with processors and acquirers.
• Strong analytical ability to turn transaction‑level data into business decisions.
