Caregiver

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Caregiver to support unaccompanied migrant children residing in a shelter in Ilion, Greece. Working under the shelter coordinator, the caregiver will ensure daily care, safety and well‑being of the minors while facilitating access to essential services.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in daily operations of the shelter under the guidance of the shelter coordinator.
• Implement individual daily programs for beneficiaries, escorting children to social or medical services as needed.
• Guide beneficiaries on personal hygiene, cleanliness and home economy.
• Monitor and replenish material supplies such as hygiene items, clothing and stationery.
• Prevent damage to equipment and facilities and educate minors on proper use.
• Maintain entry‑exit logs for minors and visitors.
• Handle crisis and emergency situations, notifying scientific staff promptly.
• Coordinate with local authorities to ensure safety of minors and staff.
• Provide 24‑hour security for accommodated children, including night and weekend shifts.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent foreign schooling).
• Experience or training in child protection, care of unaccompanied minors, or refugee assistance.
• Ability to work day/night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Fluency in Greek (written and oral); working knowledge of English or French is an asset.
• Valid driver’s licence (preferred).

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard IT equipment and software, especially MS Office.
