Backend Engineer

About the role

Plum is looking for a Backend Engineer to help build scalable, high‑performance services for its smart saving and investing platform. You will work in a hybrid environment, collaborating with product, design and other engineering teams to deliver features that impact millions of users across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain modular, testable and performant backend systems using Kotlin/Spring Boot and Python/FastAPI.
• Define and implement well‑structured APIs and endpoints following engineering best practices.
• Identify root causes of production issues, propose short‑term fixes and long‑term improvements.
• Participate in the full software lifecycle, from planning and design to deployment and monitoring.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting process efficiencies and quality enhancements.

Required profile

• Pragmatic mindset with strong planning and prioritisation abilities.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and sharing product insights with stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in cross‑functional, collaborative teams and engaging in technical design discussions.
• Adaptable and flexible, able to ship quickly, gather feedback and iterate.
