Arabic Interpreter

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a qualified Arabic Interpreter to support its five accommodation centres for unaccompanied migrant children in Athens. The role involves providing accurate Arabic‑English interpretation for beneficiaries, staff and external partners within a 24/7 operational environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver oral interpretation between Arabic and English during legal counselling, psychosocial support sessions, and daily interactions with unaccompanied migrant children.
• Assist staff in translating written documents, forms and informational materials related to shelter services.
• Support the Shelter Coordinator and National Project Officer by ensuring clear communication with authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to IOM’s ethical standards and UN terminology in all interpreting activities.
• Participate in shift work, including evenings, nights and weekends, to guarantee continuous coverage.

Required profile

• Fluency in Arabic and English, both spoken and written.
• Relevant experience in interpreting or translation, preferably in humanitarian or migration contexts.
• Understanding of migration‑related terminology and UN standards.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, high‑pressure environment and adapt to shift schedules.
