Accountant – Shipping & Trading

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our newly established shipping company in Athens. The role involves managing day‑to‑day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records and supporting month‑end and year‑end closing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain daily bookkeeping and record all accounting entries.
• Process payments, bank transfers and perform bank reconciliations.
• Monitor revenues, expenses, outstanding invoices, petty cash and corporate credit cards.
• Review and process travel and employee expense claims.
• Prepare and verify invoices and supporting documentation.
• Assist with monthly and annual closing procedures, including analyses and reconciliations.
• Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks and other partners.
• Support VAT, tax, audit and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Contribute to the improvement of accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Handle ad‑hoc accounting and financial tasks as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience, preferably in the shipping industry.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, reconciliations and closing procedures.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• High level of organization, analytical ability and attention to detail.
• Professional attitude with a hands‑on, ownership mindset.
