Senior Critical Environment Technician – Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance

About the role

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team is looking for a Senior Critical Environment Technician to keep our datacenters running smoothly. You will lead maintenance activities, respond to incidents, and mentor junior technicians across electrical, mechanical and control systems.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the subject‑matter expert for a major critical environment area (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators).
• Inspect, supervise, and maintain HVAC, heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, and other mechanical systems, escalating unsafe conditions.
• Use the internal CMMS to track assets, create and close work orders, and document maintenance activities.
• Lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions that affect operations.
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and management to address risk, safety, and operational issues.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience maintaining critical environment equipment in a datacenter or similar high‑availability environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including generators and control panels.
• Ability to work independently on advanced tasks and mentor junior technicians.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to act quickly under pressure.
