Pilot Plant Technician – Biotech Fermentation & Downstream Processing

About the role

Solmeyea is seeking a full‑time Pilot Plant Technician to work on its biotech fermentation and downstream processing pilot facility in Athens. The role involves operating fermentation bioreactors, preparing media and inocula, and supporting cell harvesting and purification steps while following strict SOPs.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor pilot‑scale fermenters, ensuring temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen stay within target ranges.
• Prepare culture media, inocula, and perform routine sampling for analytical measurements.
• Execute downstream unit operations such as centrifugation, filtration, and concentration of biomass.
• Perform cleaning‑in‑place (CIP) and sterilization‑in‑place (SIP) procedures on all equipment.
• Maintain accurate batch records, data logs, and assist with documentation for quality and regulatory compliance.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and support scale‑up activities in collaboration with scientists and engineers.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Microbiology or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with fermentation processes and pilot‑plant equipment.
• Familiarity with downstream processing techniques such as centrifugation and filtration.
• Understanding of GMP/GLP, process safety and hygiene standards.
• Ability to work on‑site in Athens and handle physical tasks like lifting and assembling pilot‑scale components.
