Shipping Financial Controller

About the role

The Shipping Financial Controller will own the full financial reporting cycle for a group of shipping legal entities, ensuring accurate accounting, timely reporting, and insightful analysis for senior management. Reporting to the Regional Controller for Europe, the role acts as a key point of financial control and governance across the shipping portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with upstream teams (deals desk, operations) to validate and record transactions in trading systems and accounting ledgers.
• Develop, establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures for shipping entities.
• Provide fleet‑level financial oversight, monitoring revenues, voyage costs, vessel operating expenses and capital expenditures.
• Lead ad‑hoc financial analysis to support business decision‑making.
• Own and oversee the periodic close process (monthly, quarterly, annual) and ensure accurate financial statements.
• Prepare and present management accounts with variance analysis against budget and prior periods.
• Review and approve journal entries, manage balance‑sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items.
• Coordinate with shared service centres to ensure month‑end and year‑end processes meet Group standards.

Required profile

• Strong experience in accounting and financial control within the shipping or maritime sector.
• Deep knowledge of IFRS and corporate accounting principles.
• Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders across finance, operations, tax, treasury and internal control.
• Excellent analytical mindset with the capacity to produce clear commentary for management and group reporting.
