Junior HPC System Administrator

About the role

GRNET S.A. provides internet connectivity, e-infrastructure and advanced services to the Greek educational, academic and research community. It is looking for a Junior HPC System Administrator to help expand the team's ability to implement and provide advanced operational support for HPC systems. The role contributes to the high availability and smooth operation of the systems through monitoring, automation, troubleshooting and user support.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor system availability and respond to alerts
• Assist in automating system configuration
• Troubleshoot issues with hardware, operating system and parallel file systems
• Respond to user support tickets
• Contribute to system documentation

Required profile

• Experience in Linux administration (especially RHEL and RHEL clones) and Linux command-line tools
• Good knowledge of Greek and English
• Plus: MSc or PhD in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, and 2 years of experience in a relevant field (HPC environment)
• Creativity, innovation spirit, teamwork, dynamic personality and willingness to deliver results on time

Required skills

• Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)
• Scripting languages such as Bash, Python or Perl for automation
• Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible
• Exposure to monitoring tools such as Nagios, Ganglia, Prometheus and Grafana
• Experience with ticketing and issue tracking systems such as JIRA or Redmine
• Plus: basic HPC concepts, job schedulers (SLURM, Torque), HPC hardware (GPUs, InfiniBand, Lustre, GPFS)
