HPC User Support Specialist

About the role
GRNET S.A. provides internet connectivity, e-infrastructure and advanced services to the Greek educational, academic and research community, serving education, research, health and culture. It is expected to host the DAEDALUS supercomputer in early 2026 and to serve the Greek AI factory Pharos. GRNET is looking for an HPC User Support Specialist to support researchers, engineers and scientific users running workloads on national HPC resources.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to and resolve HPC user support tickets
- Assist users with job submission, scheduling and workflow optimization
- Help users access systems, storage and HPC software environments
- Troubleshoot issues with jobs, applications and resource usage
- Support workload performance, including profiling and basic code optimization
- Run and analyze application benchmarks and scaling tests
- Contribute to onboarding, user guides and technical documentation
- Take part in user training (webinars, tutorials, hands-on sessions)
- Work with system administrators on system-side issues and give feedback on HPC services
Required profile
- Experience with Linux environments and command-line tools
- Understanding of scientific computing workflows and common programming languages (e.g. Python, C/C++, Fortran, R)
- Interest or experience in performance profiling (e.g. gprof, perf, Intel VTune, ARM MAP)
- Good knowledge of Greek and English
- Excellent communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving and reliability
Required skills
- Familiarity with HPC concepts: modules, batch systems, job schedulers and parallel computing
- Exposure to HPC job schedulers (Slurm preferred)
- Experience with ticketing tools (JIRA, Redmine, ServiceNow)
- Plus: hands-on HPC workload experience, containers (Apptainer/Singularity), MPI/OpenMP, scientific domains, training material preparation, MSc or PhD in a STEM field
