Legal Assistant – Support Child Protection in Athens

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Legal Assistant to join its Greece office. Working under the Senior Programme Coordinator and the Child Protection Assistant, you will provide daily care and legal support to unaccompanied minor children (UMC) residing in an emergency accommodation facility.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver day‑to‑day care and supervision for UMC in the assigned accommodation facility.
• Assist with the preparation, review and filing of legal documents related to child protection and migration status.
• Coordinate with senior staff to ensure compliance with IOM policies and national regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of assistance provided, incidents, and case updates.
• Support communication between migrants, refugees, and relevant authorities.
• Contribute to a safe, child‑friendly environment by following safeguarding procedures.

Required profile

• University degree in Law from an accredited institution.
• Professional licence or registration with the relevant legal association.
• One year of relevant experience is an advantage.
• Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within an IOM emergency accommodation facility.
• Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants or refugees.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with standard software applications (MS Office).
