International Expert – Guidance Factsheets for Marine Food Webs

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks an international expert to develop guidance factsheets for IMAP Common Indicators linked to Ecological Objective 4 (Marine Food Webs). This 12‑month remote consultancy will support UNEP/MAP and Contracting Parties in advancing the Mediterranean Ecosystem Approach.

Key responsibilities

• Produce eight Guidance Factsheets for EO4 IMAP Common Indicators.
• Draft a regional definition of Good Environmental Status (GES) for EO4.
• Propose quantitative targets associated with EO4.
• Provide technical inputs for IMAP/EcAp governance discussions, especially within CORMON.
• Conduct desk reviews of data sources, methodologies and best practices for marine food‑web monitoring.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in marine ecology, environmental science or a related field.
• Proven experience in ecosystem‑based monitoring and assessment, preferably in the Mediterranean region.
• Strong scientific writing and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality outputs remotely.
