Senior Software Engineer (PHP Backend)

About the role

EveryPay is the digital financial infrastructure behind the Skroutz Group, connecting global payment rails (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX) to consumer and merchant experiences. Its engineering team keeps the backend robust, secure and scalable, and is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on payment-platform features. The workplace is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance PHP services, background jobs and APIs that process real financial transactions at scale
• Write modern PHP (8.2+) with strict types, typed properties and PSR standards
• Build and maintain APIs, background jobs and database-driven features
• Review pull requests, catch bugs, enforce standards and suggest better patterns
• Improve code quality, architecture and performance
• Work with product managers and engineering leads, taking ownership of features from conception to deployment
• Use modern DevOps practices, cloud infrastructure and agile methods

Required profile

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend expertise
• Advanced PHP (8.x), including strict types, OOP, design patterns, testing and maintainable architecture
• Relational databases: schema design, indexing, query optimization, transactions and data consistency
• REST APIs with versioning, error handling, security and backwards compatibility
• High-throughput, distributed or mission-critical systems
• Testing (unit, integration, contract), security awareness, asynchronous processing, message queues, retries and idempotency
• Git, CI/CD pipelines, code review and mentoring others
• Ability to lead technical discussions and communicate with engineers and non-engineers
• Completed military obligations, if applicable
